Two new land areas added to B.C. mineral claim reservation lists, blocking new mining registrations

The Chief Gold Commissioner has added two new sites to B.C.'s mineral land reserve tables, which prohibit the registration of new mineral (and in one case placer) claims on those lands. The first site, Ajax North & South (Site 1007103) in the Kamloops Mining Division, has been added to the list barring new mineral claim registrations. The second site, Nazko IR 20 – Addition to Reserve (Site 1007106) in the Cariboo Mining Division, has been added to the list barring both mineral and placer claim registrations. Anyone who was considering staking or registering mineral or placer claims in these specific areas should be aware those registrations are no longer permitted. Existing holders of claims in adjacent areas are not directly affected by this change, but should confirm their claim boundaries do not overlap with the newly reserved sites.

Trail builders on Crown land can now cut timber if necessary to build or maintain recreation facilities

A new provision has been added to the Forest Recreation Regulation allowing anyone who holds an authorization to construct, rehabilitate, or maintain a trail or other recreation facility on Crown land to cut, damage, or destroy Crown timber — but only to the extent necessary to carry out the authorized work. Previously, this permission was not explicitly stated in the regulation. This change affects operators, contractors, and organizations who work on Crown land recreation infrastructure under a section 57 authorization. Those doing this work should ensure they hold the required authorization and limit any timber cutting or damage strictly to what is necessary for the approved activity.
